A disaster for Ukraine. The exposure of the Trump-Vance administration. A polar wind towards Europe. An offering to Moscow. All these observations are justified after the collision that took place in Washington on Friday, February 28, between Donald Trump and his guest, Volodymyr Zelensky, in the Oval Office.
What was supposed to be a traditional meeting between two leaders, prior to the signing of a bilateral agreement on the exploitation of rare Ukrainian minerals, turned into a verbal joust mixing sarcasm and threats, interruptions and accusations. The Ukrainian president left the White House in a hurry, without a signed agreement, at his host's demand. The conflicting priorities between the two leaders, wrongly exposed in public, have placed Kyiv in a position of unprecedented vulnerability within the cracked Western bloc.
"It's amazing what comes out through emotion," Trump later wrote on his Truth Social network, "and I have determined that President Zelenskyy is not ready for Peace if America is involved, because he feels our involvement gives him a big advantage in negotiations. I don’t want advantage, I want PEACE. He disrespected the United States of America in its cherished Oval Office. He can come back when he is ready for Peace."
