"Don't take Tylenol. Don't take it!" Donald Trump wasn't sporting a doctor's coat, but on Monday, September 22, he delivered his prescriptions for children's health with the confidence of a family physician. He specifically advised pregnant women against taking acetaminophen, sold in the United States under the name Tylenol. According to him, the painkiller is linked to the rise in autism cases worldwide, and particularly in the US. He also took aim at infant vaccination.

The administration based itself in part on a study published in the US in August, conducted by research teams at Mount Sinai and led by a Harvard professor. While the study was cautious about any direct link, it highlighted factors that led the authors to urge caution in the use of acetaminophen, also known as paracetamol, by pregnant women. Two other studies, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association and favored by most experts because they were based on larger cohorts, refuted any correlation. In all cases, doctors agreed that the drug remains the best option for managing fever and pain during pregnancy.
