Deals, deals, deals... As he flew on Monday, May 12, toward the Gulf with its emirs, gildings and riches, for the first official trip abroad of his second term, this was the dream Donald Trump was chasing aboard Air Force One – not yet replaced by the "flying palace" offered by the Qatari ruling family. This tour in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar, with primarily economic objectives, perfectly illustrates the deal-centric diplomacy of this president.
"Deal": A word that sums up so many concepts in four letters that it has become understood internationally. An easy word with a punch, perfectly embodied by the man who was a real estate king before being elected twice as the president of the United States – "three times," he corrects in interviews, still bitter about missing the 2020 electoral deal. The deal, an art he believes he mastered so well that he wrote a book about it. The deal, it's the business, the agreement, the transaction. It is not necessarily fair or sustainable, but once concluded, it is generally presented as a "win-win."
