In the looming war between the US and Europe, the digital industry is becoming a front line of its own. US President Donald Trump's administration seems to be seizing every opportunity to attack European regulation of tech, a field dominated by American giants.

"There is some concern that I have with respect to the approach that Europe is taking with the DSA (EU Digital Services Act) in particular," said US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) boss Brendan Carr on Monday, March 3, at the Mobile World Congress telecoms trade show in Barcelona, referring to the European regulation on social media content moderation that came into force in 2023. "There’s a risk that that regulatory regime imposes excessive rules with respect to free speech," the official warned, in front of the European Commission's vice president for digital sovereignty, Henna Virkkunen, with whom he was participating in a roundtable discussion. "The censorship that is potentially coming down the pipe from the DSA is something that is incompatible with [...] our free speech tradition in America," he maintained.
