About the Paris 2024 Olympic Games

How many sports are there at the Olympic Games?

In all, 32 sports will be part of the program for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Each sport has its own international federation, and within a sport, several disciplines can coexist - such as road cycling, BMX, mountain biking and track cycling within cycling. In total there will be 43 disciplines at the 2024 Olympics: athletics, rowing, badminton, 5-a-side basketball, 3x3 basketball, boxing, breaking, canoe sprint, canoe slalom, BMX, mountain biking, track cycling, road cycling, equestrian, climbing, fencing, football, golf, artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, trampoline, weightlifting, handball, field hockey, judo, wrestling, swimming, artistic swimming, diving, water polo, modern pentathlon, rugby sevens, skateboarding, surfing, taekwondo, tennis, table tennis, shooting, archery, triathlon, sailing, beach volleyball, and volleyball. A total of 329 different events (women's, men's or mixed) will take place.

Where are the Olympics taking place?

The Paris 2024 Olympic Games will not only be held in Paris and the surrounding region. There will also be events in Lille (basketball and handball), Châteauroux (shooting), Lyon, Nantes, Bordeaux, Saint-Etienne, Nice (football), Marseille (football and sailing) and Teahupoo in Tahiti (surfing).
In Paris, competitions will be held at the Porte de la Chapelle arena (rhythmic gymnastics and badminton), the Roland-Garros stadium (boxing and tennis), the Parc des Princes (football), the Trocadéro (walking and road cycling), the Eiffel Tower (beach volleyball), the ephemeral Grand Palais at the Champ-de-Mars (judo and wrestling), the Alexandre III bridge (triathlon, open-water swimming, road cycling and marathon), the Paris Sud arena Paris Expo Porte de Versailles (table tennis, volleyball, handball, weightlifting), the Invalides (archery), the Grand Palais (fencing and taekwondo), place de la Concorde (breaking, skateboarding, BMX and 3x3 basketball), and Bercy Arena (artistic gymnastics, basketball and trampoline).
In the rest of the Paris region, events will take place at the Yves-du-Manoir stadium in Colombes (field hockey), the Paris La Défense Arena in Nanterre (swimming and water polo), the Saint-Denis aquatic center (water polo, diving and synchronized swimming), the Paris Nord Arena in Villepinte (boxing and modern pentathlon), the Bourget climbing site (rock climbing), the Stade de France in Saint-Denis (athletics and rugby sevens), the Château de Versailles (equestrian and modern pentathlon), the Golf National de Guyancourt (golf), the Vélodrome National de Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines (BMX and track cycling), the colline d'Elancourt, between Elancourt and Trappes (mountain biking), and the Base Nautique de Vaires-sur-Marne (canoeing and rowing).

What do the five Olympic rings represent?

A symbol of the Olympic Games, the five interlaced rings are displayed at each edition of the Games on an emblematic monument of the host city – the Eiffel Tower, for Paris 2024. While the rings represent the five continents united by Olympism, the six colors (blue, black, red, yellow, green and the white of the background of the original Olympic flag, drafted by Pierre de Coubertin) represent all nations – as at least one of these colors was present on the flag of all countries participating in the Olympics when the flag was created.
