The border between Pakistan and Afghanistan has recently become the scene of deadly clashes. Authorities on both sides claim to have launched military operations that resulted in dozens of casualties. The escalation began during the night of Saturday, October 11, to Sunday, October 12, as the Afghan army retaliated against Pakistani security forces following airstrikes in Kabul on Thursday. Explosions shook the center of the Afghan capital near Abdul-Haq Square and several government buildings, as well as in Paktika province.
The Afghan Ministry of Defense condemned the actions as "unprecedented" and "a violation of territorial sovereignty," attributing them to the Pakistani army, which allegedly sought to target leaders of the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), the Pakistani Taliban. Mufti Noor Wali Mehsud, who has led the group since 2018, spreading terror in Pakistan where it seeks to overthrow the government and impose Sharia law, was reportedly targeted. Since 2021, the Pakistani Taliban have carried out hundreds of attacks against soldiers. On Saturday, they claimed responsibility for attacks inside Pakistan that killed 23 people, mostly soldiers.
