It was a prescient message, a plea posted on Facebook a few months ago: "If I die, I want a loud death. (...)  I want a death that the world will hear, an impact that will remain through time, and a timeless image that cannot be buried by time or place." On April 16, photojournalist Fatima Hassouna, 25, was killed by an Israeli strike in Gaza, along with 10 of her relatives.

But her voice will resonate in Cannes, thanks to the documentary Put Your Soul on Your Hand and Walk, by Iranian filmmaker Sepideh Farsi, presented in the official selection of the ACID (Independent Film Association for Distribution), parallel to the festival, from May 13 to 24. The film will be screened on May 15 as a tribute to the journalist.

Several movies selected this year in Cannes will address the war in Gaza and, more broadly, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Sepideh Farsi explained that her documentary is her response, as a filmmaker, "to the ongoing massacres of Palestinians. My way of not losing my mind." It was through a Palestinian friend that she met the young Gazan journalist online in April 2024. The two women wrote to each other almost daily for 200 days. "The bits of images and sounds we exchanged became my film," said the director.
