Ill-disciplined Italy scored 31 unanswered second-half points to take temporary charge of Pool A with a 38-17 World Cup victory over Uruguay in Nice on Wednesday, September 20.
Uruguay had held a shock 17-7 lead at half-time thanks to a penalty try, a five-pointer by Nicolas Freitas and a Felipe Etcheverry drop-goal after Italy had opened the scoring with a Lorenzo Pani try.
Michele Lamaro, Monty Ioane, Lorenzo Cannone and Juan Ignacio Brex all crossed for the Italian side in the second-half, Tommaso Allan kicking all five conversions and Paolo Garbisi adding a late penalty.
