Red carpet, Arc de Triomphe, Patrouille de France: Photos from Charles III's first day in France
In picturesAfter their state visit scheduled for March was postponed because of unrest, King Charles III and Queen Camilla are visiting France from Wednesday to Friday.
King Charles III and Queen Camilla arrived in France on Wednesday, September 20. They were welcomed at Orly airport by Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne. The monarch's state visit to France, marked by solemnity and pomp, is supposed to celebrate the revival of French-British friendship, after the turbulence of Brexit.
At 2.45 pm, Charles and Camilla joined President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte Macron at the Arc de Triomphe for a ceremony to rekindle the flame at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. They then made their way down the Champs-Elysées to the presidential palace, as the Patrouille de France and the Red Arrows, the French and British acrobatic patrols, took to the skies.
Another highlight of the visit was the state dinner at Versailles, a nod to the king's mother, Elizabeth II, who was invited to the same sumptuous venue in 1957 and returned there in 1972.
