A man suspected of stabbing several people on the morning of Saturday, February 3, at Paris's Gare de Lyon (a major travel hub) train station has been arrested, the Police Prefecture told news agency Agence France-Presse (AFP).
According to a provisional report from the police, the attack, which took place at around 8 am local time, left one person seriously injured, with a non-life-threatening prognosis, and two slightly injured.
The police didn't specify the assailant's motives at this stage. "The suspect did not cry out [any religious slogans] during his attack," added a police source. "He presented the police with an Italian driving license," said the same source.
The area between halls one and three in the station is temporarily inaccessible, rail operator SNCF said on X, formerly Twitter. "Traffic has been slowed between Paris Gare de Lyon and Montargis and between Paris Gare de Lyon and Montereau," it also announced, referring to "an act of malice."
