There are worse things than just being an undocumented immigrant in America: Being undocumented and haplessly finding yourself on the other side of the Mexican border, with no other option for getting back to Texas than to join the band of Mexican migrants trying to cross the Rio Grande, hoping that a better life awaits them on the other side. This is the predicament in which Mohammed, "Mo," finds himself in the second season of the largely autobiographical series that stand-up comedian Mohammed Amer co-created in 2022 with his friend Ramy Youssef.

Similar to Ramy (2019), which already featured the character Mo Amer, the first season of Mo explored − with great accuracy and self-deprecation − the contradictions, existential and metaphysical questions that go along with being Arab and/or Muslim in post-9/11 America.

Ironically, it's Mo's stateless status that gets him out of trouble and puts him back onto American soil, carrying only an electronic ankle bracelet that must be recharged every eight hours, as the dummy in uniform who straps it on reminds him. Despite the setbacks that greet him as he returns to Houston − his fiancée has left him for a Jewish cook with big blue eyes, and he now has to share his room with his brother's cat − Mo never loses his sense of humor, nor the tireless optimism that helps him cope with his daily life as a Palestinian immigrant.
