While Benjamin Netanyahu was meeting with Donald Trump in Washington, Emmanuel Macron sought to make another voice heard regarding the fate of Gaza during a trip to Egypt on Monday, April 7. The French president called for a ceasefire in the Palestinian territory and, despite everything, promoted the two-state solution.

Welcomed by a salvo of cannon shots, Macron first met with his Egyptian counterpart, Abdel Fattah el-Sissi, at the presidential palace in Cairo. The two leaders then had lunch with King Abdullah II of Jordan. Their two urgent concerns were to demand the resumption of humanitarian aid deliveries, which Israel has been blocking since March 2, and putting an end as soon as possible to Israeli strikes on Palestinian territory, three weeks after Israel broke the ceasefire.

Following their meeting, the three leaders called Donald Trump to present their positions, just before he hosted the Israeli prime minister at the White House. According to the Elysée, the discussion focused on the "ways to urgently secure a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, emphasizing the need to immediately restore full access for the delivery of humanitarian aid and the release of all hostages and detainees."
