London's message to the world on Saturday, March 1, was clear. The United Kingdom would continue supporting Volodymyr Zelensky, despite the heated altercation between the Ukrainian president and his American counterpart at the White House the previous day.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer welcomed the humiliated leader at around 5:30 pm local time on Saturday as Zelensky entered the gates of 10 Downing Street. He gave him a warm handshake, lingering in front of the cameras, before inviting him to enter the prime minister's residence for a bilateral meeting that was in complete contrast to the showdown led by Donald Trump and his vice president, JD Vance, in the Oval Office.
"We stand with you, with Ukraine, for as long as it may take," said Starmer. Zelensky, who arrived directly from Washington on Saturday morning, was invited to a European crisis summit in London on Sunday and is expected to be received by King Charles III. According to The Sun, the meeting with the monarch will take place in Sandringham. It's a significant move, as the British authorities are well aware of Trump's fascination with the royal family and monarchical pomp.
