Israel's military said that freed US-Israeli hostage Edan Alexander crossed into Israeli territory from Gaza on Monday, May 12, after being released from captivity by Hamas's armed wing.
"A short while ago, accompanied by IDF (military) forces, the returning hostage, IDF soldier Edan Alexander, crossed the border into Israeli territory. The returning hostage is currently on his way to an initial reception point in southern Israel, where he will be reunited with his family," the military said in a statement.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu credited the release of Alexander from Hamas captivity in Gaza to Israeli military pressure and "political pressure" from US President Donald Trump.
"This is a very emotional moment. Edan Alexander has come home. We embrace him, and we embrace his family. This was achieved thanks to our military pressure and the political pressure exerted by President Trump. This is a winning combination," Netanyahu said in a video statement published by his office.
