A haven of peace in the heart of Paris's Pigalle neighborhood
SelectionSurrounded by two legendary concert halls, the Elysée Montmartre Hotel exudes serenity, away from the hustle and bustle of the district. Here's what to see and do in the area.
Almost side by side on the lively Boulevard Marguerite-de-Rochechouart, the Elysée Montmartre and Le Trianon play an essential part in this cosmopolitan district. The neighborhood encapsulates a bohemian lifestyle and the spirit of popular entertainment, and the two concert halls – one open since 1858, the other since 1902 – are part of that festive history.
The Elysée Montmartre Hotel is the brainchild of the film producer Abel Namias and Julien Labrousse, the founder of the Policronica architecture and design studio. Seen from the street, a succession of solid light oak arches contrasts with the majestic whitewashed facades. Behind light linen curtains, the seven bay windows conceal a welcoming reception room, with a magnificent coffered ceiling in blond wood, just like the furniture.
Walls left unfinished in places, sand-colored carpets, banquettes upholstered in soft ivory-colored fabric, furniture in curious geometric shapes: a feeling of serenity infuses the elegant space on the fringes of the district's effervescence. There is even a coffee shop reserved for guests. "To set ourselves apart a little, we also have a projection room with a selection of LaserDiscs from the 1980s and 1990s," said Namias.
