A motorist plowed a vehicle into a cafe terrace in the 20th arrondissement of the Olympic host city Paris on the evening of Wednesday, July 17, leaving three people seriously injured, officials told Agence France-Presse (AFP), without indicating a possible motive. The incident occurred at 7:30 pm.

A police source who asked not to be named said the driver fled the scene in northern Paris while a passenger from the vehicle was detained. A separate source close to the inquiry said the passenger tested positive for drug and alcohol consumption.

A large police presence was in place around the terrace of the Le Ramus bar where the car crashed. At least four fire trucks were also nearby.
