The days when Discord was a platform reserved for gamers seem long gone. In 2025, the application is at the heart of several youth-led protest movements, notably in Morocco, where part of Generation Z (15- to 30-year-olds) have been demonstrating daily since September 27.
While these young people take to the streets to demand an end to corruption, better healthcare and education services, and the resignation of the government, it is on a Discord server that organizers coordinate their efforts. Named GenZ 212 – the number referencing Morocco's country calling code – it was launched on September 18 and soon brought together nearly 170,000 people. Participants have been using written chat and voice channels to discuss actions and demands. The server has also served as a platform for announcing the time and location of upcoming protests, as well as for nightly votes to decide on whether to continue the movement.
