"Angel Face" needed no words to tell his own legend. Through his use of guns, the 41-year-old had established himself as the leader of the Mafia clan in Vieste, a seaside town in northern Puglia, Italy, with a reputation as a ruthless killer and a 24-year prison sentence for his criminal activities.
In recent months, however, in the closed confines of several ultra-secure detention centers, Marco Raduano, requesting the status of judicial collaborator, has been summoned to deliver his confessions as a murderer to a judge. This daunting mission was self-inflicted by the "boss": If he wanted to be registered as a "repentant" and hope for a reduction in his sentence, he had to leave no stone unturned. He must spare no details, especially about the 12 months he spent on the run, from February 24, 2023, to February 1, 2024, after escaping from prison in Sardinia, Italy. At the time, he was Italy's most wanted man.
The recorder was turned on. Angel Face, as he's nicknamed, didn't hold back. He revealed more than expected, detailing a catalog of wrongdoings, more than a dozen murders, some of which are still unsolved. He also disclosed the blood trails left throughout his escape, which began with breaking out of Nuoro prison as a poor hermit and ended with his arrest in Corsica, outside a chic seaside restaurant where he was about to have lunch with a young woman.
