The ranking of French cities most favorable to cycling has remained unchanged since the last edition of the survey in 2021, with Grenoble, Strasbourg and Rennes still claiming the top spots. The results of the fourth Bicycle Barometer survey were released on Thursday, September 18, by the French Federation of Bicycle Users (FUB), which brings together 600 local organizations and has organized the survey since 2017.

From February to June, a consultation was held on a dedicated platform that included 26 questions about cycling safety, local authorities' efforts and the availability of bike racks and repair services in each city. The consultation attracted a record 334,000 responses and the Bicycle Barometer gathered enough responses (30 or 50, depending on population size) to generate an overall score within 2,646 out of France's roughly 35,000 municipalities.

The presentation of the results was organized in the style of an awards ceremony on Thursday evening, aboard a barge moored to a quay of the Rhône river in Lyon; the occasion allowed the pro-cycling movement to take stock six months ahead of the municipal elections. For the first time, more women (51%) than men responded to the survey. Each city received an overall score, falling into categories from A+ to G.
