The White House published a 20-point plan on Monday, September 29, intended to bring an end to the war in the Palestinian territory. Meeting with President Donald Trump in Washington, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accepted it, with some conditions.
Point 1. "Gaza will be a de-radicalized terror-free zone that does not pose a threat to its neighbors."
The goal is to ensure that Hamas no longer acts as the de facto government of the enclave. This point was crucial to reassure Israelis, who still largely live with the trauma of the October 7 massacre. In addition to the atrocities committed that day, people living on the outskirts of the Gaza Strip have endured increasingly sophisticated rocket attacks for 20 years. Many of them would need to see real change in the Palestinian territory's governance before deciding to go back to their homes.
Point 2. "Gaza will be redeveloped for the benefit of the people of Gaza, who have suffered more than enough."
