Three days on the run ended at the Pistoia police station, near Florence, Italy. Olivier A., the suspected murderer of a Muslim worshipper in the mosque of La Grand-Combe, a small southern French village, turned himself in to the Italian police on Sunday around 11 pm.
On Friday at around 8:30 am, the 20-year-old French citizen of Bosnian origin burst into the Khadidja mosque if La Grand-Combe. He encountered the only worshipper present at that hour, Aboubakar Cissé, a 23-year-old from Mali, whom he did not know. In the surveillance footage, the two men are seen talking before heading to the prayer room. As Cissé kneels to pray, the suspect pretends to imitate him before stabbing him to death with around 40 knife wounds.
Olivier A. filmed his victim agonizing on the ground with his phone and congratulated himself on his act. "I did it, I did it," he rejoiced. He then uttered a few incomprehensible words and added: "Your Allah is shit, your Allah is shit." The location of the attack, the victim's faith and the words spoken in this video published by the killer on Snapchat naturally led investigators to focus on the possibility of an Islamophobic crime.
