In an interview, French Junior Minister for Artificial Intelligence and Digital Technologies Clara Chappaz reacts to attacks by the heads of major American social media companies, such as Meta (Facebook, Instagram) founder Mark Zuckerberg and X owner Elon Musk, who accuse European laws of "censoring" freedom of speech. Chappaz urges the European Commission to firmly apply the European regulation of social media – the Digital Services Act (DSA) – as Meta announced, on Tuesday, January 7, major changes in moderation and Musk is stepping up messages aimed at influencing political decisions in the United Kingdom and the European Union (EU), notably in Germany. On January 9, he will be talking on X with a leader of the German far-right party Alternative für Deutschland (AfD).

Meta is taking its inspiration from a moderation feature [Community Notes, in which information is verified by internet users who write comments] used today by other platforms, including X, and which is under investigation by the European Commission as part of the DSA regulation. So we have reason to be concerned.
