35 votes made the difference: In the southern Ardèche department's 3rd constituency, right-wing independent candidate Fabrice Brun beat far-right Rassemblement National (RN) candidate Cyrille Grangier by a hair's breadth, with only a 0.06% margin of votes cast between the two.
Further north, in the 5th constituency of Côte-d'Or, in Burgundy, RN candidate René Lioret came out on top, with just 42 more votes (0.07% of those cast) than his Renaissance (Macron's party, part of the Ensemble coalition) opponent, Didier Paris.
In 65 constituencies, the vote margins between the MP that was elected and their closest opponent were no more than 3%, representing a number of votes ranging from just a few dozen to 1,750.
Five RN, four Ensemble and three left-wing Nouveau Front Populaire alliance MPs clinched their seats "by the skin of their teeth," with a margin of under 0.5% of votes cast.
