Eric Ciotti, the disputed leader of the conservative Les Républicains (LR) party who made an alliance with the far right, came out well ahead in the first round of the legislative elections on Sunday, June 30, obtaining 41.04% of the votes in the 1st constituency of Alpes-Maritimes, on the French Riviera.
Ciotti overtook the candidate invested by his own movement, Virgile Vanier-Guérin (5.78%), that of Horizons, Graig Monetti (22.79%), and of left-wing Nouveau Front Populaire, Olivier Salerno (26.62%).
Throughout the campaign, Ciotti repeated that his alliance with the RN was essential to maintain a group of right-wing MPs in the Assemblée Nationale.
