For nine months, Mohamed Amra, France's most wanted fugitive, had managed to elude the police on his trail. It took just three days before the drug trafficker, apprehended on Saturday, February 22, in Bucharest, crudely disguised with orange-dyed hair, was extradited to France. The notorious criminal nicknamed "The Fly" was indicted on Tuesday evening, February 25, for "murder, attempted murder, escape, theft and concealment of theft," all in an organized gang, as well as for "criminal conspiracy," according to the Paris prosecutor's office.

The 30-year-old multi-offender remained silent in front of the investigating judge before being notified of his detention. Still under reinforced escort, he was then transferred to Condé-sur-Sarthe prison in northwestern France, where he was placed in solitary confinement, under the strictest supervision procedures. The Condé-sur-Sarthe facility last summer was chosen to receive the most important drug traffickers, under a harsh regime based on isolation and the monitoring of communications. The "Amra case" had contributed to making tougher detention conditions a priority.
