Teens glued to the couch with no energy or enthusiasm? Not if you suggest they make trendy mittens, edit some Wes Anderson-style footage, paint a wall for the love of art or design their future tattoo!
Make mittens at the Palais Galliera, the Musée de la Mode (Paris 16th)
For young people passionate about fashion or dreaming of working in the industry, a visit to the Palais Galliera is a must. This Parisian institution traces the history of fashion over the last three centuries and boasts an incredible archive. To coincide with the third part of the "La Mode en Mouvement" ("Fashion in Motion") exhibition, which explores the link between fashion and sports, the museum is organizing a special guided tour for 13 to 17 year olds, followed by a hands-on workshop.
After an hour of walking through the exhibits on the evolution of winter sportswear and fashion trends, the teens – beginners included – will head into a room to sit at a sewing machine and make their own pair of mittens. A textile designer will explain the specifics of velvet and jersey fabrics as well as how to operate a Singer sewing machine. Other workshops for teenagers will be offered during the museum's next exhibition, about the provocative American punk designer Rick Owens, opening on June 28.
