On Saturday, May 10, around 3 pm, Emilien, 55, was sitting on a bench in Port-Royal, Paris, enjoying the spring sun. This Beninese man barely had time to take in what was happening around him before finding himself amidst a gathering of neo-fascists. This did not intimidate this former associate of "pan-Africanist" activist Kémi Séba, who in the late 2000s aimed to unite black supremacists and white nationalists. Quickly, a conversation ensued between Emilien, "the Kémite," and Théo, a far-right activist. "In talking with nationalists, I realized we agreed on quite a few points," he said. "Yes, exactly! It's the oligarchy and the media that divide us to maintain control!" Théo answered.

However, on Saturday in Paris, not all exchanges were as courteous between Parisians and the roughly 1,000 far-right activists marching in the Montparnasse district. "She loves Jewish dick," shouted a demonstrator at a woman who yelled "fascists" in their direction. "But how can such things be allowed? I can't believe this!" said a man in his sixties, tears in his eyes, as the column of demonstrators proceeded down Rue de Rennes, chanting "Europe, youth, revolution," waving Celtic cross flags under the bewildered gaze of café-goers.
