Since the death in 2022 of her husband, Dan Graham – a renowned conceptual artist celebrated in the world's greatest museums – Mieko Meguro has carried a heavy heart. In November 2024, her grief was rekindled when the French city of Nantes informed her of their plans to soon remove a "pavilion" by the American artist, one of his famous large-scale glass structures known for their interplay of transparency and reflection.

A month later, Meguro discovered through the press that the city of La Rochelle, without informing her, had just dismantled another pavilion commissioned 15 years earlier. Two works dismantled in quick succession − it was too much! "I have no intention of suing the cities," said Meguro, who is not a litigious person. "What I want to do is talk with them to ensure that Dan's work continues to be accessible to the public, while respecting his artistic integrity."

Nantes was the first city in France to commission a pavilion, called "Nouveau Labyrinthe" ("New Labryinth"), to cover the underground parking lot at Place du Commandant-Jean-L'Herminier. When the pavilion was inaugurated in 1994, the city's then Socialist mayor, Jean-Marc Ayrault, hailed it as a work that "forces us to find our way in an environment that we must begin to look at and understand."
