The Les Republicans (LR, right) party's contentious president, Eric Ciotti, who had called on his party to ally with the far-right Rassemblement National (RN), announced in a post on X that he had won in the second round of France's snap parliamentary elections, on Sunday, July 7, in the 1st constituency of the south-eastern French Alpes-Maritimes department, obtaining. He beat the presidential coalition candidate, Graig Monetti and the candidate for the left-wing Nouveau Front Populaire alliance, Olivier Salerno. Monetti, who came third in the first round, with 22.79% of the vote, had announced on X between the two rounds that he would not withdraw his candidacy against Ciotti and Salerno, saying that he was the most likely to beat the LR leader, who came well ahead on June 30, with 41.04% of the vote.

Throughout the campaign, Ciotti had embraced his alliance with the RN, despite the protests of the rest of LR's leadership. On the evening of Sunday, June 30, he called on right-wing voters to reject the "terrifying danger of the far left" in the second round of the elections, saying that "victory [was] in sight" to bring RN leader Jordan Bardella into the premiership.
