Attempted explosives attack thwarted in northern France as terrorist threat remains 'very pervasive'
On Sunday, April 6, two young men were arrested and subsequently charged and taken into custody in the northern French port city of Dunkirk – an action that may have prevented a suicide belt attack in the area. According to the Interior Ministry, this is the third thwarted attack since the beginning of 2025.
The two men have been charged with "participation in a terrorist criminal conspiracy and possession of explosive materials," according to the National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor's Office, which confirmed information initially disclosed by radio network RTL and Le Parisien newspaper. A third man has been charged with "failure to report a terrorist crime" and placed under judicial supervision.
The three men are young adults. The main suspect is a 19-year-old radicalized man living in Dunkirk. He was under administrative surveillance by intelligence services, according to security sources, for making online threats against Mila, who received death and rape threats in 2020, when she was 16, for anti-islam videos she posted on social media. She is now a far-right influencer.
