

Armenia on Monday, October 2, said one serviceman was killed when Azerbaijani forces opened fire in a border region, underscoring the volatility of the area even after the capitulation of the separatist statelet of Nagorno-Karabakh.
"On 2 October, as a result of shelling by the Azerbaijani Armed Forces of a vehicle belonging to the Armenian Armed Forces carrying provisions for personnel... there is one dead and two wounded on the Armenian side," Armenia's defense ministry said on Telegram, after initially reporting an unspecified number of casualties.
In a separate incident, Moscow said Russian and Azerbaijani forces on Monday, October 2, came under sniper fire in Nagorno-Karabakh, days after Azerbaijani forces secured the surrender of Armenian separatists in an offensive to regain control of the mountainous territory.
"A joint Russian-Azerbaijani patrol was shot at by an unknown person using a sniper weapon. There were no casualties. The command of the Russian peacekeeping contingent, together with representatives of the Azerbaijani side and Karabakh, is investigating," the Russian defense ministry said in a statement.
