A few hours after the announcement on Saturday, May 10, of a ceasefire, India and Pakistan continued to exchange fire until 1 am, accusing each other of violating their agreement. Kashmir, on both sides of the line separating the areas controlled by each country, remained the target of gunfire and missiles. In Indian-administered Srinagar and Udhampur, another night of anxiety was endured under detonations and sirens. India retaliated. "What the hell just happened to the ceasefire? Explosions heard across Srinagar," said Omar Abdullah, the regional government leader, with his sense of humor, on X, around 9 pm. Fifteen minutes later, he posted another message: "This is no ceasefire. The air defence units in the middle of Srinagar just opened up."

The truce is fragile. In addition to Kashmir, blackouts were imposed in other border regions of Pakistan, including Punjab, Rajasthan and Gujarat, after several drones were spotted.

The surprise agreement between the two belligerents was announced by US President Donald Trump on his social network Truth Social, around 5 pm local time in New Delhi, following a particularly worrying fourth day of conflict, marked by a series of drone and missile attacks targeting military bases and airfields. "After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE," wrote Trump, who had seemed disinterested in this conflict.
