The seat once held by Charlie Kirk did not remain vacant for long. On Monday, September 15, United States Vice President JD Vance symbolically took his place behind the microphone, from the White House, hosting a podcast episode in memory of his murdered friend. It was a demonstration of just how integral Kirk, the leader of the Turning Point USA organization, was to the administration, despite not holding an official title.
Driven by barely restrained anger and invoking the Bible repeatedly, the guest host delivered a chilling refrain about the impossibility of uniting the country before "climbing the mountain of truth." He added: "There is no unity, with the people who celebrate Charlie Kirk's assassination, and there is no unity with those who fund these articles, who pay the salaries of these terrorist sympathizers."
Vance specifically named the Open Society Foundation, founded by billionaire George Soros, and the Ford Foundation as targets. He accused them of funding the left-wing monthly magazine The Nation, saying he had read an article that, in his view, distorted Kirk by portraying him as a racist. The magazine's president, Bhaskar Sunkara, stated that The Nation had not received funding from those sources. Nevertheless, Vance accused the two foundations of "setting fire to the house built by the American family over 250 years."
