The escalation between India and Pakistan is intensifying, suggesting that the two adversaries have entered their fourth war. For the fourth consecutive night, the two nuclear powers clashed. The Pakistani army accused its neighbor of having attacked, on the night of May 10, three of its air bases, Mourid, Chorkot and especially Nur Khan in Rawalpindi, where the army headquarters is located near the capital Islamabad. India allegedly launched air-to-ground missiles from its combat aircraft.
Pakistani army spokesperson, Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, stated that all means of the Pakistani army remain "safe and sound," with most missiles intercepted by Pakistani air defenses. In a televised address, he condemned "a provocation of the highest gravity," before threatening: "Now await our response."
The retaliation was initiated shortly after, at dawn, with a counter-operation called "Bunyan-un-Marsoos" ("Lead Wall"), a name taken from a Quranic verse. The Pakistani military launched an attack on several strategic sites in India, including airfields in Udhampur in Kashmir, Pathankot in Punjab, the advanced Indian Air Force base, Suratgarh in Rajasthan, Sirsa in Haryana and a missile depot in Punjab. "All Indian bases used to attack Pakistanis and mosques are targeted," said the Pakistani army.
