The 49th Césars ceremony will take place on Friday, February 23, at the Olympia in Paris. The fantasy film The Animal Kingdom, nominated in 12 categories including Best Film and Best Director, leads the nominations.
Justine Triet's Palme d'Or winning film Anatomy of a Fall, which is not cessing to sweep up awards abroad and attracted over 1.6 million spectators in France, is also, unsurprisingly, racking up nominations (eleven in all). Among others, Triet is nominated for Best Director, a category that had no female nominees last year and in which only one female director, Tonie Marshall, has ever won in the history of the ceremony. In addition to the categories presented below, two honorary Césars will be awarded on Friday: the first to actress Agnès Jaoui and the second to British director Christopher Nolan, whose feature Oppenheimer is nominated for Best Foreign Film.
