Madonna scolded a fan at her concert for sitting down before realising they were in a wheelchair, footage shows.

“What are you doing sitting down over there? What are you getting sitting down?” the singer asked the concertgoer after pausing the concert.

The 65-year-old then walked to the edge of the stage to get closer to the fan she was addressing, to which the audience cheered. It was at this point that Madonna realised they were in a wheelchair.

“Oh, ok. Politically incorrect. Sorry about that. I’m glad you are here,” she said, before turning away and walking back to her position.

Videos of the incident spread quickly on social media – with one being viewed more than two million times.

“At her age, she should have known better than to do this. They probably paid good money for their seats too. So rude,” one person wrote.

“She should have refunded that person’s ticket,” said another.

The fan in question has not publicly commented on the incident.

Madonna’s Celebration tour commemorates four decades of her biggest hits, and has shows scheduled in over 35 cities across North America and Europe. Her comments came during one of her five shows at Inglewood, in California, which seats 18,000 guests.

The singer had to postpone the start of her tour in June, after being hospitalised with a bacterial infection.

At the time, she said: “I did not want to disappoint anyone who bought tickets for my tour. I also didn’t want to let down the people who worked tirelessly with me over the last few months to create my show. I hate to disappoint anyone.”
