EXCLUSIVE: Security cameras show Vance Boelter’s movements at his mysterious Minneapolis residence

"It's shocking to know that a murderer was next door," a neighbor told Alpha News.

A neighbor of murder suspect Vance Boelter provided Alpha News with exclusive video footage of some of Boelter’s final moves before he was captured after the largest and longest manhunt in Minnesota history, according to authorities.

Boelter’s neighbor, Adam (he asked that we not use his last name for this report) lives in north Minneapolis around 49th and Fremont. Adam says Boelter rented a room in the neighborhood for the last couple of years and explained other details about what he saw on his security video recordings with Liz Collin on her podcast.

Boelter has been federally charged with shooting and killing Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark. Boelter has also been charged with shooting and critically injuring Minnesota Sen. John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette.

Adam explained that Boelter “was subleasing a room … and he would be at the residence a few times a week, but there was no schedule, so it was just random days and times. A lot of times he would come after midnight … then there’s also a lot of times where he would leave very early in the morning, like around 4 or 5 a.m.”

“With the way he dressed and the vehicle that he drove, my wife and I thought that he was a detective or maybe some kind of private investigator,” he added.

Adam referred to the property as having “problems” in the past. Adam said another person who was subleasing a room “had a drug overdose and died inside the house” during the time Boelter was there.

In one video that Boelter made himself, he mentions that he had affiliations with funeral homes and the Hennepin County Medical Examiner.

Adam explained that, “Now that we’ve seen that Boelter was working with a company that removed dead bodies, we actually believe now that he was dispatched to remove the body from the house where he was subleasing a room. We saw the body removed and the van that took the overdosed person away. The van that took the dead body away was a van that Boelter was driving many times to the residence.”

In talking about the most recent events, Adam explained to Liz Collin that judging by his security cameras, Boelter was likely setting up for the attacks the week before. Adam also provided a rough timeline during the podcast.

Thursday

“We didn’t see any of his vehicles at the house in the couple days prior to Thursday. Then, we did notice after going back through our security footage that he arrived around 10 p.m. on Thursday night,” Adam explained.

Friday

“Then, he’s there in the house and doesn’t leave until about Friday around 11:50 a.m. When he leaves Friday, you see him dressed in the clothing where he looks like a detective or a private investigator and he has some papers or a notebook in his hand. We think he was setting up plans for the murders,” Adam explained.

Vance Boelter is seen walking to his vehicle in security footage obtained by Alpha News.

“Then, around 5:38-5:40 p.m., he comes back and he has different clothes on, maybe the same pants, but he has a different shirt. So he changed clothes while he was out. Then around 7 p.m. he has a raincoat on and loads a bag into the vehicle that he was driving, which was one of the fake police cars. And then he pulls that car around to the back of the property and that’s actually where that car stays. And then around 8:45 p.m. it looks like he leaves on a bicycle in the alleyway and he has some bags and a raincoat and a hat on,” Adam continued.

Saturday

Adam also pointed out how he noticed that Boelter “was back at that residence for something at 12:55 a.m. on Saturday morning. Our camera showed them pulling away from the driveway in the alley right before going to the Hoffmans’ residence. And then after he had committed his crimes, he comes back at 6 a.m. and breaks the window out of his own vehicle. Then he’s gone and not seen at that residence again.”

Adam thinks Boelter may have been taking advantage of the criminal activity in the neighborhood.

“I think that he may have been smashing his own window out to make it look like there is a auto break-in for some kind of alibi. There’s been a lot of auto thefts and auto break-ins in this exact neighborhood,” Adam said.

Minneapolis police officers arrived to take Boelter’s roommates in for questioning around 8 a.m. on Saturday morning.

The Minneapolis SWAT operation to clear the home happened later that afternoon, after 1 p.m. on Saturday.

Adam said he is surprised that the address doesn’t seem to be more of a focus of the investigation.

“There’s been no police presence at all. There was no police presence while he was on the run. And there’s been no visible police coming in, taking evidence, searching the house, looking for evidence, going through the garage. It appears that the house in Minneapolis was the central hub of his crime. He was here two days before, then hours before shooting the Hoffmans, and hours after committing the crimes,” Adam said.

“It’s shocking to know that a murderer was next door,” he added.
