Biden Spox Revolted By Question at Briefing About Photos of Slain Babies
Biden NSC spokesman John Kirby was clearly revolted when he was asked about the authenticity of photographs depicting infants slain during the Hamas terrorist assault on Israel.
President Joe Biden — in the fourth set of remarks he has given on the violence since Saturday — received scrutiny from reporters when he brought up some of the atrocities that have become evident since the attacks began:
I mean, I — I’ve been doing this a long time. I never really thought that I would see and have confirmed pictures of terrorists beheading children. I never thought I’d ever — anyway. I —
A White House official later clarified the president had been referring to public reporting.
At Thursday’s White House press briefing, CBS News’ Ed O’Keefe was the first of several reporters to ask about the photos, hours after the Israeli government released several horrifying images.
Kirby was visibly revolted at the notion that the U.S. government should “independently verify” those images — or that there was any reason to disbelieve them:
ED O’KEEFE: Let me ask you one other. Has the United States independently verified the photos released by the Israeli prime minister’s Twitter account today showing the images of dead children?
ADM. JOHN KIRBY: I don’t think we’re going to be in the business of, of having to validate or approve those images that are coming from the prime minister of Israel. And we have absolutely no reason to doubt their authenticity!
Another reporter asked about the president’s remarks:
REPORTER: Just to go back to the president’s comments yesterday about the pictures, he said he never thought he would see a confirmed pictures of terrorists beheading children. At that point in time. Had he seen such photos? What had he seen that made him say that?
KIRBY: I don’t have anything to add to what he said. I mean, again, you guys have all reported on these atrocities. You’ve some of your outlets have even run some of these images. They’re plain for everybody to see. And the prime minister’s office has spoken to that. Even before today, they’d spoken to these kinds of atrocities. And again, today, the prime minister showed Secretary Blinken some additional grotesque imagery.
Kirby told another reporter that the administration takes “very, very seriously” the prevention of misinformation.
