WHITTIER, CA — Members of a local church were caught off guard last weekend after they arrived for Sunday morning service to find a mob of area youth pastors had shown up wearing "Pay Us What You Owe Us" t-shirts.

Parishioners at Covenant Life Church were unsettled by the protesting group of youth pastors, who said they were tired of not being compensated at the same level as senior pastors at their respective churches.

"We deserve what's fair!" said youth pastor Trent Mandrake. "We're here doing the same job, but we have the added challenge of leading groups of junior high and high school kids. We're just as talented as the senior pastors, but they always get all of the attention and huge contracts. It's time for us to get the appreciation we should've been getting all these years."

Churchgoers expressed skepticism that youth pastors were deserving of the same level of pay as their senior counterparts. "It's apples to oranges when you think about it," said Covenant Life member Jim Kreedle. "I mean, let's be honest, I could probably perform at the same level as a youth pastor. I can move at the same speed. I can jump just as high. I can play some foosball. I'd probably get close to the same results. And that's without even training that hard for it. Being a senior pastor? That takes actual talent."

At publishing time, the protesting youth pastors refused to comment when confronted with the reality that their careers had been subsidized for decades by the revenue brought in by their senior pastors.
