Conspiracy theorists and far-right operatives love to prey on the weak and misunderstood. And in today's dark, post-Trump reality, no animal has been more unfairly misunderstood than the common Xenomorph.
We as a collective human species must look past the movies, news clips, and factual data that paint this misunderstood, parasitic, multi-jawed creature in a harsh light so we can see that xenomorphs aren't an inherently dangerous breed, but instead, only become so by how they are raised.
Each xenomorph pup is born with the potential to be a lovable cuddly pet from the moment its egg is laid on the cold floor of a ship's cargo hold via the Queen's ovipositor. It would be unfair to judge the precious young life simply for its non-traditional form of incubation. Moreso, it is inequitable to cast judgment on a vulnerable species for taking its first breath after emerging from the chest cavity of its dead host.
Instead, we must ask ourselves, "How was it raised?"
Studies have probably shown that dogs, cats, gerbils, and cuddly young xenomorphs that come from abusive homes react poorly and may do things like scratch, pee on furniture, eat slippers, or consume entire space colonies by no fault of their own.
Ironically, the bad-faith actors who now malign the species are to blame for showcasing the alien's "violent" attributes in film and thus, creating a label the poor animal has been unable to shake from its carapace. Additionally, illicit — and extremely profitable — pit fighting rings raising xenomorphs to kill have done nothing but further the unfair depiction of xenomorphs being a danger to the human species simply because they're a often danger to the human species.
So the next time you see your friend's face engulfed by a face hugger, its proboscis implanting a parasitic lifeform into his lifeless body, thus initiating the second stage of its lifecycle, perhaps pledge to treat the soon-to-emerge acid-blooded creature with the love and respect it deserves.
As the country slowly increases in racism and right-wing bigotry, it’s important to ensure you don’t get caught up in their evil MAGA ways.
