NEW YORK, NY — In news that sent the social media conspiracy theorist sphere into a frenzy, experts reported that the metadata from the security camera video released by the Department of Justice showed that the footage outside Jeffrey Epstein's prison cell had been edited using Mario Paint.
Forensic analysts said that several segments of the video showed clear signs that the footage had been fed through the 1992 SNES classic, leading them to believe that there could potentially be more to the video than meets the eye.
"I could recognize those mouse strokes anywhere," said one social media sleuth. "At one point, just after the sixth hour of footage, you can even see Mario himself walk by in the background. I'm fairly certain that he didn't work at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in 2019, so I have a sneaking suspicion that the footage was edited using Mario Paint.
Other users pointed to the fact that the security camera footage switched from the view outside the prison cells to a brief interlude of Mario Paint's fly-swatting minigame. "That seemed to just come out of nowhere," one Reddit user said. "1992-era flyswatting mingames aren't standard in security camera video, are they? Yeah, that seemed out of place and a telltale sign that the footage had been altered."
At publishing time, further investigation revealed that the prison cell doors in the video had all been marked with a Yoshi stamp, calling into question the authenticity of the video.
