SAN DIEGO, CA — According to sources, local man Chris Martin exhibited signs of delusional behavior last night as he continued to hold out hope that his favorite baseball team could still pull out a win despite being down by 7 runs in the 9th inning.
"It's still early. There's a lot of baseball left," Martin was reportedly heard saying multiple times throughout the game. "We can still win this."
Loved ones reported that Martin had powerful faith in his team's ability to recover despite all evidence to the contrary. Martin said himself that it would all be worth it if they got into the playoffs, a result that continued to look increasingly unlikely.
"Come on, let's go! We just need ten more runs and we'll have this in the bag!" Martin said during the team's last at-bat. "Let's get three people on base and get a grand slam going. Then two more of those. It's not over yet. We got this!"
However, according to experts — and basic mathematical probability — it remained all but certain that the team did not "have" "this."
At publishing time, Chris Martin was still holding onto the belief that his team still had a decent chance to win the World Series as long as multiple other teams all died in horrific plane crashes and were unable to participate. "There's still plenty of baseball left," he said, rocking back and forth.
