NextImg:Zuckerberg boasts 175 million active users for Threads

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced this week that his company’s “Twitter killer” Threads has amassed 175 million active monthly users a year after its launch.

Mr. Zuckerberg confirmed the numbers Wednesday in a Threads post.

“Threads now has more than 175M monthly actives. What a year,” he wrote.

Threads has grown steadily since its launch in July 2023, quickly dominating other X competitors like Bluesky and Mastodon. Helped by its integration with Meta’s Instagram, Threads quickly garnered over 100 million active users in its first three months.

The app continued to grow, helped by new features.

As X got in hot water with regulators, Threads advertised itself as a less politically edgy alternative. Additionally, X owner Elon Musk’s decision to change the company’s name from Twitter made it harder to find on app stores, which gave Threads another advantage.

Still, the newer app has only a fraction of the cultural relevance and daily users of X, which boasts around 250 million daily users and over 500 million monthly active users.

Threads’ decision to de-emphasize news coverage has likely contributed to X’s top standing. The older platform remains a primary news outlet for millions of users.
