A search is now underway for a woman missing in Big Bend National Park in Texas after her family reported she never returned home from a hiking trip, officials said Thursday.

The search for Christy Perry, 25, began Wednesday when park rangers and U.S. Border Patrol personnel began scouring the area, including from the air.

An expanded team that also includes Texas state personnel and air assets is combing the area Thursday, the National Park Service said.

Ms. Perry is described as a 5 foot two inches tall Korean woman weighing 100 pounds, with brown hair, brown eyes and a fair complexion.

She bought a rental car in Midland, Texas, on Nov. 8 and entered the national park on Nov. 9, park officials said. Ms. Perry did not show up for a camping reservation that evening, and her car was found unoccupied at the trailhead for the park’s Lost Mine Trail.

That hiking path has now been closed until further notice to allow flexibility for search teams looking for Ms. Perry.

NPS asks anyone who was in the area of the trail on Nov. 8 and 9 that might have seen Ms. Perry to call their tip line at 888-653-0009.
