A woman and hospice patient who was declared dead at a Nebraska nursing home was actually still alive, as funeral home workers discovered Monday morning.
Constance Glantz, 74, was declared dead at a Waverly nursing home at about 9:44 a.m. according to the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office.
About two hours later, workers at a Lincoln, Nebraska, funeral home saw she was still breathing after laying her out on an embalming table.
The nursing home involved is The Mulberry at Waverly. The funeral home is Butherus Maser & Love Funeral Home, according to The Associated Press.
Ms. Glantz died at about 4 p.m. at a local hospital, Chief Deputy Ben Houchin told reporters. An autopsy was performed, but the results will take weeks to compile.
Investigation into the incident is ongoing. The nursing home is cooperating.
“At this point, we have not been able to find any criminal intent by the nursing home,” Chief Deputy Houchin said.
