A woman has been found dead inside a car submerged in a lake in Irvine, California.
The Orange County Fire Authority was called to the scene Thursday night, having received word of a car going through an intersection before careening into the water, fire officials said in a post on X.
The car, a Mercedes Benz, according to KTLA-TV, was pulled from the water around midnight with the rear driver’s side window open. The 30-year-old woman was confirmed dead inside the car.
Witnesses saw the driver barreling towards the water, which is around six feet deep, without any signs of attempting to stop.
“The driver didn’t stop or brake. She just continued on into the lake,” Irvine Police Department spokesperson Sgt. Karie Davies told the Orange County Register.
Police did not name the victim and have thus far been unable to find relatives. Determining with a toxicology report whether or not she was impaired could take months, Sgt. Davies told the Orange County Register.
