A 60-year-old woman was arrested Friday and charged with arson for a brush fire that broke out Wednesday near Leo Carillo State Park in California.

The brush fire, called the Freddy fire, started Wednesday and was swiftly put out by the Los Angeles County Fire Department, California State Parks said in a release.

Gloria Lynn Mandich was arrested on suspicion of starting the fire and was scheduled to appear in Ventura County Superior Court on Friday, CSP said.

According to court records, she is charged with recklessly causing a structure or forest fire and arson during an emergency. She is due back in court on Jan. 22.

Ms. Mandich pleaded not guilty to both charges according to the Ventura County Star.

The entire area is under a red flag fire danger warning amidst the multiple ongoing wildfires in the Los Angeles area. Leo Carillo State Park is about 23.6 miles from Pacific Palisades, the Los Angeles neighborhood where the first of the fires started Tuesday.

The multiple fires in the area have engulfed an area of about 56 square miles according to The Associated Press.

As of Friday, the County of Los Angeles Department of Medical Examiner was investigating 11 deaths tied to the fires, five linked to the Palisades fire and six linked to the Eaton fire in Altadena, California.
