NextImg:White House says rioters will not prevent deportation operations

The White House Wednesday said criminal rioters will not deter its deportation operations and that the administration will continue to deploy National Guard troops to places where federal law enforcement officers need protection.

“President Trump promised to carry out the largest mass deportation campaign in American history, and Left-wing rioters will not deter him in that effort, sanctuary cities and states will no longer be allowed to shield illegal criminals from deportation,” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said.

Ms. Leavitt noted that the president federalized the National Guard under U.S. Code 10.

“Our United States Marines and the National Guardsmen and women who are on the ground right now are helping to create a peaceful environment for ICE and Border Patrol, who were being again hailed with rocks, and being violently and viciously attacked,” she said. “They needed reinforcements, and so our United States Marines, who are on the ground, are providing those reinforcements to ensure the environment is peaceful, so that these raids and deportations can continue.”

According to the White House, since Friday, there have been 330 illegal aliens who have been arrested as part of the riots in Los Angeles, and 113 of those illegal aliens had prior criminal convictions.

Overall, the White House says, this includes arrests of American citizens.

There’s been 157 people arrested for assault and obstruction, obstruction related charges, including the attack on a police officer with a Molotov cocktail.

Homeland Security identified the man as Emiliano Garduno-Galvez, a Mexican with a criminal record and a previous deportation from the U.S.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom declared “democracy is under assault” in an address Tuesday night, and demanded that the president cancel the thousands of troops he’s placed on the streets of Los Angeles.

Mr. Newsom, while decrying “several dozen lawbreakers” who turned anti-ICE protests violent, said blame for that — and for the later escalations — belongs to Mr. Trump.

He mocked Mr. Trump’s demand to deport illegal immigrants, saying it’s targeted “dishwashers, gardeners, day laborers and seamstresses.”

“That’s just weakness. Weakness masquerading as strength,” the Democratic governor said.
