With just days to go until the infamous ball drop in Times Square to mark the start of the new year, finishing touches were being made on Friday to the iconic New Year’s Eve ball.

Rapper Pitbull helped place the last triangular segment that makes up the giant ball which will tower over New York’s famous square as crowds ring in the new year.

“This ball behind me is 12ft in diameter,” said Times Square New Year’s Eve executive producer Jeffrey Straus.

“It weighs nearly six tons. It has 2,688 crystal triangles and over 32,000 LEDs that create a kaleidoscope of colors that you see in the sky above Times Square.”

The celebrity-filled event will include live performances from Carrie Underwood, the Jonas Brothers, TLC, Megan Maroney and others.
