Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz said at Tuesday’s vice-presidential debate that former President Donald Trump built only 2% of the border wall he promised.
“Donald Trump had four years, he had four years to do this, and he promised you, America, how easy it would be,” said Mr. Walz, the Democratic nominee for vice president. ““Less than 2% of that wall got built, and Mexico didn’t pay a dime.”
Mr. Walz didn’t explain his math, which seems at odds with the numbers.
More than 450 miles of new fencing was erected along the 2,000-mile U.S.-Mexico border during the Trump administration
Another 250 miles of additional fencing was in the pipeline when President Biden took office and shut down all construction, leaving the material to rust and leaving gaps that smugglers since have used to bring in drugs and illegal immigrants.
